Butterfly Ali’s impressive track, ‘Pray For ‘Em’ was originally released earlier in 2020, and has now been given an equally enjoyable acoustic reimagining. He explains the reason behind the reworking: “I did this acoustic version of 'Pray For ’Em' with Aaron Kellim because I wanted to show the truth & reality of the song’s content and story behind why I wrote it. I added some spoken word sections that really enhance the message within the lyrics, really pressing home that racism & racial injustice are very much alive and real.” The core essence of the original track is still very much front and centre, but there is something much more personal about hearing Butterfly Ali’s voice exposed against just an electric piano; the funk and jazz influences of the original are still there, but this turns ‘Pray For ‘Em’ into a straight-up soul track. -Dan Peeke
